 RADON TESTING

RADON is believed to be the second leading cause of lung cancer.

Nearly one out of every 15 houses has a radon level that the EPA considers elevated.

The EPA considers levels at > 4pCi/l  are considered elevated.

What is a pCi?  A pCi is a measure of the rate of radioactive decay of radon.
One pCi is one trillionth of a Curie, 0.037  disintegration per second, or 2.22 disintegration per minute.

Therefore, at 4 pCi/L there will be approximately 12,672 radioactive disintegrations in one
liter of air during a 24- hour period.
Inhaling these particles can damage lung tissue and cause lung cancer.

The average house radon level is 1.3 pCi/L.
Outdoor air level is about 0.4 pCi/L but it
can be higher in some areas.

We use a very sensitive radon device which is left in the lowest living area for 48 hours.
After that time, the device is checked and the reading is immediately available.

The report will  give an hourly account of the amount of radon in the air, for 48 hours.

The reading will be in the report that we give you and/or I will call you with the results.
